DENVER -- Owners of the Grateful Gnome Sandwich Shop and Brewery are furious with their neighbors next door.
Owners claim construction workers building the apartments to the north didn’t properly tie down their scaffolding, which came crashing down onto Daniel Appell’s building during heavy winds on Monday.
“All hell broke loose, it sounded like a tractor trailer came through the ceiling and they were all yelling,” said Appell. “They’re yelling, ‘get out of the building, get out of the building’ and when I walked in there were boards sticking through the ceiling, like into the bar."
There are over 100 holes in the roof now after the collapse, Appell said.
And he’s not getting much cooperation from the owner of the construction company he said.
Denver7 tried to call the owner of that construction company and we were hung up on during that phone call. Denver7 then tried to talk with workers on the construction site who told reporter Mark Boyle, ‘No comment.”
The Grateful Gnome was supposed to open July 1, but now that grand opening has been pushed back indefinitely and Appell isn’t confident the financial piece will be resolved any time soon.
“I don’t see this being ‘oh yeah, our scaffolding fell on your building, we’re at fault, let’s fix this,’” said Matheson. “I’m not going to give up, I’m confident it will open if the universe will give me a break for a second.”
