Fire forces evacuation of Denver apartment building; several residents treated for smoke inhalation

Fire started in outside bushes, spread to building

DENVER - A two-alarm fire forced the evacuation of a three-story apartment building in west Denver on Monday night.

Denver fire spokesman Mark Watson said several residents were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

The fire began about 7:45 p.m. when outside bushes somehow ignited and the flames spread into the Continental Court Apartments at 3129 W. Arkansas Ave. near Federal Boulevard, Watson said.

"I seen the second floor start on fire, then I seen the third floor on fire and then I seen explosions on the third floor," a man told 7NEWS.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by about 8:05 p.m., Watson said. The fire's cause is under investigation.
