Denver Public Schools is once again holding forums on race.

"In its ongoing effort to understand and change why race negatively impacts students, Denver Public Schools (DPS) is again hosting Conversations on Race," school officials said.

The Conversations on Race started last fall after students walked out of more than two dozen schools in Denver and Aurora to protest the police shooting deaths of unarmed African-Americans in Ferguson, New York City and Cleveland.

DPS said each forum will give students, parents, educators and other community members a platform to openly talk about race and the biases that come with it.

The first forum of the fall will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on the 14th floor of the Emily Griffith Campus, located at 1860 Lincoln Street in downtown Denver.

DPS said the event will start with a screening of the movie “I’m Not Racist… Am I” – a film directed by DPS alumna Catherine Wigginton Greene. After the screening, nearly 100 community members will participate in Conversations on Race.
