Two suspects were taken into custody following an officer-involved shooting on East Colfax Avenue in Denver  Monday.

Officers with the Aurora Police Department were looking for a shooting suspect in the area of East 19th Avenue and Akron Street at 1:39 p.m.

The gunman reportedly shot at another person walking in the area, according to a source close to Denver7 reporter Sally Mamdooh. That person returned fire and one of the bullets hit a USPS truck. A total of 10 shots were fired in the area, Mamdooh said.

Once police found the suspects, the APD notified the Denver Police Department and a short foot chase began, but ended minutes later, at 1:48 p.m., when an ADP officer shot one of the suspects in the area of East Colfax Avenue and Wabash Street, according to DPD Deputy Chief Matt Murray.

That person was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition. A second suspect was taken to a hospital as a precaution and has been taken into custody along with a third suspect who was detained at the scene.

Denver7 photojournalist Ryan O'Connor reports a gun was found at the scene of the shooting on Colfax and Wabash. The area is taped off, but Colfax remains open despite the heavy police presence.

No other officers from either the DPD or the APD were injured, according to Murray.
