The father of a child injured in an accidental shooting at a home in the Ruby Hill neighborhood early Saturday afternoon has been arrested and is now being investigated for a weapons offense, authorities said.

Police say the victim in the shooting, a 3-year-old boy, is stable.

The shooting was reported just before noon inside the family home in the area of West Mississippi Avenue and South Raritan Street.

Neighbors tell Denver7 a little boy went inside to go to the bathroom.

"Next thing you know, we heard a shot," said one neighbor who then watched the parents immediately run inside. "The mom had the child wrapped up ... walked outside and was immediately on the phone with police."

The parents tried to take the little boy to the hospital themselves, according to investigators.

An ambulance met the family half way to take him to the hospital.

According to court records, Tagee Robinson, the boy's father, pleaded guilty last March to a theft charge in Adams County.

He was currently serving an 18-month probation.

Police are still trying to figure out how the gun was fired in the first place. Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues, a DPD official said.
