DENVER - Police say a vehicle that hit and killed two children in Denver Friday night left the scene dragging a stroller.

The two children were killed at 14th Avenue as they were crossing Yosemite Street, according to Denver Police Detective Matt Buckskin.  The children's mother was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where she was in serious condition on Saturday.

The children were both under the age of 5, police spokesman Sonny Jackson said. One child was pronounced dead at the scene, the other at the hospital.

Buckskin said they are looking for a large, white SUV that has some front-end damage.  Police were able to obtain surveillance video of the vehicle fleeing the scene and it is being analyzed.  They hoped to release the video by Monday.

Buckskin said some debris from the vehicle was left at the scene, which he described as "gruesome" during a Saturday afternoon news conference.

The identity of the victims has not yet been released.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Friday.

"We encourage anyone who may have information to contact us," Buckskin said.  Tips can be called in to the Denver Police Accident Bureau at 720-337-1000  or Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP.
