DENVER - Denver police are searching for two gunmen who robbed a 1stBank in Stapleton on Wednesday morning.
The robbery-in-progress was reported just before 10:30 a.m. in the 1stBank at 2850 Quebec St., according to police radio traffic.
A bank employee hiding under a desk called 911 to report two gunmen were in the bank’s safe room, a dispatcher radioed to patrol cars rushing to the scene.
“Use extreme caution,” the dispatcher warned officers.
The robbers, described as black men wearing white scarves on their faces, fled the bank on foot and police believe they jumped into a waiting silver minivan that took off.
Soon after the robbery, police said three black men abandoned the running silver minivan in the parking lot of Parkside at Stapleton Apartments, at 7780 E. 23rd Ave., less than 1 mile south of the bank. They got into a green BMW and took off, according to police radio traffic.
Police said one robber was wearing a teal baseball cap with a Florida Marlins emblem and a gray sweatshirt.
The other robber was about 5-feet-10-inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a red baseball cap and a long yellow jacket.
