As the City of Denver continues to grow, transportation is becoming an increasingly important issue. Mayor Michael Hancock visited several locations on the city's southeast side to meet with residents and businesses.
The mayor wants to improve access to public transportation in that area. He explains that it can be difficult to get to the existing transit options.
"We can do some things that will allow us to come in and improve the infrastructure to help in the short term while we look at long-term opportunities," Mayor Michael Hancock said.
In the short-term, the city could add bike paths and improve the sidewalk system. The mayor said any long-term solutions to improve connectivity would be a big undertaking and likely very costly.
"It’s one of the older neighborhoods and so you’ve got some of the fixed infrastructure that you’re really going to have to redesign and create kind of a 21st century infrastructure,' said Hancock.
Until then, people are planning their commutes -- and even where they live -- based on available transportation options.
"I can see that that there’s parts of the city that are not covered. I chose the apartment I chose cause it’s accessible to light rail," said Steve Gehring, a commuter.
