An armed robbery in Denver turned into a shootout when the clerk at a liquor store ended up in a gun battle with at least one of the suspects, witnesses told Denver7.

The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. on Monday at a liquor store at Sheridan Boulevard and Jewell Avenue.

There were at least three bullet holes left in the door of the liquor store.

Denver police said the five suspects took off and dropped off one of their own at Denver Health Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police think the wound may have been self-inflicted.

Officers said they spotted the suspected getaway car, chased it and arrested the other four suspects at Cedar Avenue and Raritan Street, about two miles from the hospital.
