DENVER -- The tragedy in Las Vegas has a lot of people wondering what they should do if a mass attack happens near them.

The most important thing you can do if you're ever in a situation where you could help those injured, is to stop a person's bleeding.

That's why Denver Health is opening its Bleeding Control training to the public for free, and their free classes will be held the last week of October.

“Unfortunately, this is our new reality and this is the world that we live in. And we as citizens need to be more resilient as this time goes on,” said Denver Health Paramedic’s Assistant Chief Justin Harper.

We’re hearing countless stories out of Las Vegs of civilian heroes running toward the gunfire to help victims clinging to life.

Someone could bleed to death in just three minutes, and that’s minutes before emergency responders could get to an active situation.

This hands on class teaches the ABCs of stopping blood flow from the body.

A for alert --- immediately call 911.

B for blood --- find the source of the bleeding.

C for compression --- stop the bleeding with a tourniquet or gauze.

This class is $25, but the Denver Health Paramedic Division is offering these hour-and-15-minute courses every day, from Oct. 23 through Oct. 27, from 5 to 6:15 p.m., at the Rita Bass Trauma EMS Education Institute at 190 W 6th Ave.

Attendees will need to preregister through this link.
