Denver demonstrators seek to build bridges, not walls

DENVER (AP) -- Several hundred people marched in Denver on Saturday to urge the new Trump administration and Congress to work together to solve problems with immigration.

The demonstrators are ending their march at the Denver immigration detention center to show their solidarity with people who are being held there on immigration charges.

Organizer Michelle Warren compares the march with the civil rights marches of the 1960s, trying to find peaceful solutions to immigration problems. Warren says the coalition of about 20 churches and community leaders want to build bridges, not walls.

Warren says many Hispanic supporters are afraid of retribution and opted not to participate in the demonstrations.
