Denver Bomb Squad: Odd contraption wired with colored lights, cameras was homemade alarm system

Red box found in apartment at 9th and Downing

DENVER - The Denver bomb squad has determined a suspicious red box containing wires, colored lights and cameras found in an apartment building was a homemade alarm system.

Movers called 911 after finding the strange box in a unit at a  three-story building at 930 Ninth Avenue. The building was under renovation after being damaged by fire a few months ago.

An employee with the moving company described to odd contraption to 7NEWS.

"It has red lights and green lights," the mover said. "I opened it up and there was something in there and it was all wired up…and then it's hooked up to a black box."

"The police couldn't get into the black box, so that's why they called the bomb squad," the mover said.

7NEWS saw members putting on their bulky protective gear.

When AIRTRACKER7 flew over the area, the moving truck was still parked in front.

Police for a time blocked off Downing Street between 9th and 10th avenues.
