DENVER – At least 1 man was arrested as anti-Trump protesters marched in downtown Denver Friday evening.

The protest, which grew from a small group of about 20 people to approximately 150, started at around 5:30 p.m. near the steps of the State Capitol building.

Chanting “Not my president!,” “This is what democracy looks like!,” “Don’t give in to racist fear, everyone is welcome here!” and “Her body, her choice!,” the protesters marched from Civic Center Park to Speer Boulevard and went through the Auraria Campus until they reached the I-25 on-ramp at Colfax Avenue, where they tried to disrupt traffic at the highway.

Denver Police waited for them there and advised them to disperse and take the protest elsewhere. At one point, a DPD commander told them they were breaking the law by obstructing the streets and officers started to move in on them.

As police moved in on the protesters, the crowd chanted “who do you serve?! … Who do you protect?! … This is what a police state looks like!” as police chanted “Move back! Move back!”

The protesters eventually then went back through Colfax and marched through Champa Street until they reached the 16th St. Mall.

There, police arrested a man for obstruction of traffic.

“[The protest] is a waste of time,” Denver resident Caitling Green told Denver7 photojournalist Adam Stevens at the scene. “They can’t change what’s gonna [sic] happen, it’s inevitable...it’s a waste of time.”

There were no reported damages to buildings or other property and there is currently no estimate as to the number of officers who were out on the protest.
