Americans own millions of recreational boats across the country and more companies are connecting boats with people who want to rent them.

"It's growing faster than we could even imagine," said Bryan Petro with GetMyBoat.com. "We're seeing four to five times growth."

Boat owners can post their boat online and rent it out.

"They get to list their price, availability and list pictures." said Petro.

Denver7 talked with boaters at Cherry Creek Reservoir Saturday and most knew nothing about a floating Airbnb.

"It's kind of shocking," said Candace Hunt who was immediately concerned about liability issues.

"I wouldn't rent out a boat. When someone docks it, you could take out a $300-to $500 prop and it wouldn't even be your boat," Hunt said.

Petro said there's insurance for that.

"We're very similar to a car rental service. It's an additional a la carte option that you can pick up if you want."

With some considering boating more of a luxury in Colorado, convenience and affordability makes this growing marketplace very popular.

"I think it's pretty cool to be able to come rent somebody else's boat for a day or two," said boater Justin Carrigan. "You don't have to trailer your boat. Everything is done for you. It sounds like a good idea"
