DENVER -- One person is in custody after two police chases overnight.

Denver police told Denver7 that officers were called to 13th Avenue and Newton Street late Tuesday night on a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Officers said when they tried to contact the driver of white pickup truck, the driver drove off. There was a short chase, but the driver got away.

Police put out a BOLO alert for the vehicle. About 45 minutes later, the truck was spotted on U.S. 36 and there was a second chase.

This time, multiple agencies were involved. The driver was stopped and taken into custody near 54th and Federal.

Police told Denver7 they found a loaded AK-47 in the pickup truck.

Officers said the pickup truck had been stolen earlier in the evening on Tuesday.

Officers said there have been a rash of Ford pickup trucks being stolen in the metro area recently.
