DENVER -- Coloradans are well aware of the looming change in our weather. The sun we’re seeing Thursday is expected to change over to slush by Friday morning.

"After being here for a while, you kind of expect that to happen. It's going to be 80 degrees and then 30 degrees,” said Lakewood resident Susan Thompson.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will deploy 100 plows on metro Denver area roads, 500 will be on the job statewide.

"Before a big storm comes in we meet, we conference call with all the maintenance sections throughout the state," said CDOT spokesman Bob Wilson.

"The I-70 corridor is definitely going to be an area that we're going to have to keep a good eye on," he said. "The I-25 corridor could be a problem, especially areas to the south of the Denver metro area through Colorado Springs and touching on Pueblo."

Because the Colorado cold can be so unpredictable, CDOT has a system so resources can be easily moved to harder hit areas.

"It's constantly keeping an eye on the roads and the weather forecast to see what's coming up so we can be proactive as opposed to reactive."

A Blizzard Warning has been issued for southeast Aurora, Jefferson County, Douglas County, Elbert County and the Palmer Divide.
