If you’re passionate about skiing and snowboarding, you might not have to hang up your gear when the warm weather months hit if a proposal in Castle Rock becomes reality.
The year-round snow sports center would be located at the Philip S. Miller Park on the west side of Castle Rock. The park already has an incline, zip line, recreation center and a bungie jumping tower. Mayor Paul Donahue says the addition would be a great thing for the town.
“We think that a snow park or snow flex, a year round snow hill would make a huge difference, it would kind of be the diamond in the crown of this whole park,” said Donahue. “I think it’s a great compliment to the skiing that we already have here in Colorado.”
According to the Chicago-based developer’s website, the park would include moguls, several different jumps and runs to suit all skill levels. The park would also include a downhill mountain bike course and a 25,000 square foot lodge and restaurant.
Those who frequent the park say the addition is a natural progression for the area.
“It gets a ton of use particularly if you come out here on the weekend, the parking lot is full, so I think anything you can do to give people an opportunity to get exercise and recreate here in town is great,” said Larry Bowling.
The town council has passed a memorandum of understanding with the developer expressing interest in bringing the terrain park to the town. The ball is now in the developer’s court to come up with all of the funding.
