BROOMFIELD, Colo. - A man accused of killing a woman at an auto repair shop in Broomfield and trying to kill another woman who worked at the Lakewood motel where he lived has been convicted.
Jurors convicted Lawrence Raymond Crouch on Friday of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted first-degree arson, and attempted possession of an explosive or incendiary device. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 57 years.
Prosecutors say Crouch shot Mary McGrath, of Broomfield, several times at an auto repair shop Oct. 12. Crouch, McGrath and the shop's owner were former roommates.
Investigators say Crouch allegedly told police he also had planned to hurl a Molotov cocktail at an employee of the hotel where he lived but was thwarted when she wasn't at work.
