BOULDER, Colo. - A grass fire burned about an acre and forced evacuations in the foothills northwest of Boulder Monday.

Officials said they believe the fire, which was first reported around 7:30 p.m., began as 30 mph winds drove power lines into a tree, causing sparks to ignite grass below.

As a precaution, residents of 15 to 20 homes in the 7900 block of Olde Stage Road were told to evacuate, fire officials said.

Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire without any significant damage or structure loss.
