The University of Colorado's chancellor is reinstating two student government presidential candidates who were disqualified from taking office after being accused of using pizza and cookies to bribe students for votes.

The Daily Camera reports Chancellor Phil DiStefano's decision means the original results of the April election will stand and the students will take office Saturday. He says administrators have met with student leaders and they support the decision.

CU students elect three presidents each spring.

A student government appellate court had found that two candidates promised cookie cakes and pizzas to students who pledged to vote for them.

DiStefano says the court "acted in good faith" but determined that the accused students weren't given a chance to cross-examine their accusers and the panel failed to issue rulings against each candidate individually.
