If you enjoy swimming at the Boulder Reservoir, some bad news for you: The swim area will be closed at least through Monday, July 4, due to elevated levels of bacteria.

Swimming was temporarily suspended this afternoon as a precaution when a routine water sampling test determined bacteria levels to be elevated," said Sarah Huntley, a spokesperson for the City of Boulder, in a statement sent to Denver7. "The increased levels are believed to be the result of rain runoff," she said, adding that the swim area would reopen once bacteria levels are reduced.

The Star Spangled Splash carnival, however, will continue through the Fourth of July weekend.

This is not the first time the Boulder Reservoir swim area has been closed for the same reason this season. A closure took place in early June
