Boulder County clerk opening early for expected rush of people who want civil union licenses

Boulder County is expecting a flood of same-sex couples to line up for civil unions when they become legal under Colorado law on May 1.

To handle the work, the recording division staff plans to open its office at 1750 33rd St. from midnight to about 2 a.m. to issue licenses to couples. The Boulder office will reopen for regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Branch offices at 529 Coffman St. in Longmont and 722 Main St. in Louisville will be open for regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 1.

7NEWS is in the process of checking with other counties for their plans related to the new civil unions law. So far, we've learned that Douglas County and Arapahoe County clerks will not be changing their normal business hours on May 1.
