Planned light rail stop moved over concerns about interference with medical equipment

AURORA, Colo. - A station planned for the I-225 light rail line will be moved to accommodate concerns about electromagnetic interference and vibration near research equipment on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

The Regional Transportation District Board of Directors approved the request Tuesday to move the planned station from Montview Boulevard to Fitzsimmons Parkway.

The RTD says they had worked with CU to evaluate options for mitigating the electromagnetic interference and vibration problems, but determined the affordable options might not be sufficient for future technologies.

The project team aims to have a new station site selected and the design underway within the year.

The I-225 line is a 10.5 light rail extension that will pass through Aurora. It is part of the FasTracks program and will link to the existing Southeast Light Rail Line at the Nine Mile Station and the planned East Rail Line at the Peoria Station.
