AURORA, Colo. -- Four years after the Aurora movie theater shooting, funds are still desperately needed to create a memorial for the 12 people killed that night.

Organizers tell Denver7 they are more than halfway toward their fundraising goal of $200,000. The planned memorial garden will be located at the Aurora Municipal Center. It will be included as part of the Xeriscape Garden at Alameda and Chambers.

It has been a struggle to raise the funds needed for a proper memorial, last year we reported that organizers cut their fundraising goal in half. Originally they wanted to raise $400,000.

The 7/20 Memorial Foundation has raised $110,048 as of June 30.

Two fundraisers are planned on the four year anniversary to help raise the money needed to memorialize the victims. Cici's Pizza, located at 14000 E. Mississippi Ave, is donating 10 percent of its proceeds on Wednesday, July 20. The fundraiser at Cici's is happening all day.

Families of the victims and the City of Aurora will host an event called Ice Cream in the Garden from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to join them at city hall, located at 15151 E. Alameda Parkway.

A memorial service for the victims has been planned from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Great Lawn at the Aurora Municipal Building, according to a tweet by the District Attorney's Office of the 18th Judicial District.

You can donate to the foundation through an online fundraising campaign. More information about the memorial can also be found on the 7/20 Memorial Foundation Facebook page. Donations can also be mailed to the Reflection Memorial Garden, c/o 7/20 Memorial Foundation at 15151 E. Alameda Parkway, Aurora, CO 80012.
