The intersection of East Alameda Avenue and South Sable Boulevard in Aurora will closed at 8 p.m. Sunday and remain closed until just before Thanksgiving while crews work on the I-225 Light Rail line.

RTD's work will include relocating utilities, grading and paving operations, track installation and signal relocations.

RTD spokeswoman Lisa Trujillo said the agency is sensitive to the impact of the closure of an intersection normally carries about 62,000 vehicles daily. It's a key route to the Aurora government center and a shopping district that includes the Town Center of Aurora and other businesses.

"We have to have the intersection open for the holiday shopping season. That's why we're working 24/7 on the project as well, we're working day and night to get the work done," Trujillo said.

The public can use the green and pink routes on the below map to access local businesses and detour around the closed intersection.

"We are maintaining access to the businesses, that is definitely a priority for us because…they need that support," Trujillo said.

RTD is suggesting that drivers who use Alameda Avenue, use Sixth or Mississippi avenues. Drivers who use Sable Boulevard should use Abilene Street or Chambers Road, according to RTD.
