AURORA, Colo. -- An Adams County School board member was arrested on attempted child sex assault charges and internet luring of a child.

Robert Vashaw is the Director of the Adams 14 Board of Education. Vashaw was arrested by Aurora police Friday morning during an internet investigation. Police said Vashaw met who he thought was a young girl online and planned to meet her for sex at a motel. Instead, police arrested him.

"It's pretty scary. He seemed like a nice guy, I've only talked to him about twice when I was over here visiting. He seemed pretty cool," said Frank Smith, a neighbor of Vashaw.

Police said no children from the Adams 14 school district were involved.

The Adams 14 School District released the following statement after learning of his arrest:

"We have been made aware of some allegations brought forward involving a board member. However, we do not have any details on the situation. We are allowing the appropriate law enforcement agency handle this matter.

We recognize there are allegations and as such, we will not speculate as to the facts of the situation. We respect the responsibilities of law enforcement to handle this matter and suggest that any questions on this be directed to the Aurora Police Department."

Denver7's Molly Hendrickson stopped by Vashaw's home on Friday. A woman who said she was Vashaw's girlfriend said she was unaware of his arrest or the serious charges facing him.

"That does not sound like him at all," she said.

Vashaw is in jail without bond. He faces charges of attempted sex assault of a child and internet luring of a child.  Aurora Police said they expected him in court on Monday.
