ARVADA, Colo. - Vehicular homicide and DUI are among the charges facing a 29-year-old Louisiana man accused of running a red light and crashing into another vehicle, killing the other driver.
Codey Daniel Trahan allegedly ran the red light at 80th and Sheridan around 1:45 a.m. on Friday. Pam Russell, spokeswoman for the First Judicial District Attorney, said court records indicate witnesses saw him crash his Dodge Challenger into a GMC Yukon driven by Joe Gonzalez, 37.
Gonzalez had entered the intersection on a green light, Russell said. He was ejected from his car in the crash and killed.
One of the two passengers in the Yukon was also seriously injured.
In court Friday, Trahan was charged with DUI vehicular homicide, reckless vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault, all felonies. He was also charged with DUI, reckless driving and careless driving resulting in injury.
Russell said Trahan is being held on $50,000 bond and has his preliminary hearing scheduled for June 26 at 1:00 p.m.
