Fake Arvada firefighter solicits donations for the Association for Firefighters and Paramedics

Department doesn't support that charity

ARVADA, Colo. - The Arvada Fire Department says a fake firefighter recently solicited for donations to a charity the department does not support.

The impostor was asking for donations for the Association for Firefighters and Paramedics, abbreviated AFP. That California-based charity declined to be evaluated by the Better Business Bureau and was rated among America's 20 worst charities by the Tampa Bay Times earlier this year.

"While we are not certain who was claiming to represent our organization, we would like to make the public aware that Arvada Fire does not support AFP," the fire department wrote Wednesday.
