A barricade situation inside the Arvada Police Department Headquarters is now over, a spokeswoman with the department confirmed with 7NEWS.

On Friday evening, officers with the APD asked people to stay away from the area after an armed man who appeared to be suicidal walked into the building and barricaded himself.

An official with the department tweeted the warning at 8:05 p.m.

Arvada Police Department spokeswoman Jill McGranahan said the man walked into the headquarters at 6:18 p.m. armed with a gun and a knife.

Police negotiators talked with the man for several hours until he turned himself in.

McGranahan said the man was in the lobby area with no access to other parts of the building. Employees inside the headquarters were moved to a safe area, but McGranahan did not say where.

A loud explosion was heard at 9:03 p.m. McGranahan said the loud explosion was a flash bang used by police to distract and disarm him.

The police headquarters are located at 8101 Ralston Road. Surrounding streets include Carr Street, West 59th Ave., Ammons Street and Ralston Road.

The situation was over at 9:37 p.m., McGranahan said, but Arvada Police will investigate the incident. Police did not say if the man would face charges.

No one was injured during the standoff.
