Air Force Academy identifies cadet who died after being found unconscious on campus

Death of Matthew Patrick, 22, under investigation

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force Academy on Monday identified a cadet who died last week after being found unconscious on campus.

Cadet 1st Class Matthew Patrick, who was in his senior year, was rushed Friday morning to Penrose Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, academy officials said.

The cause of the death is under investigation.

A Dallas native, Patrick, 22, was an aeronautical engineering major and is survived by his mother, father and sister, officials said.

Fellow cadets were informed about the death midday Friday.

"The Academy family is deeply saddened by the death of one of our own. Our heart-felt condolences go out to the family and friends of our cadet," said Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, Superintendent of the Air Force Academy. "Our Air Force family is grieving this loss, and we are committed to helping the family through this extremely difficult time."
