2 Wanted men surrender peacefully after a Monday night standoff at Arapahoe County Home

Sheriff: 1 man wanted for escape

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. - Arapahoe County sheriff's deputies safely took two wanted men into custody after a three-and-half hour standoff Monday night.

The incident began about 5:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Jasmine Street, said Sheriff's Capt. Glenn Thompson.

Deputies assigned to the regional fugitive apprehension unit attempted to contact a man who was wanted on an arrest warrant for felony escape from the Colorado Department of Corrections, Thompson said.

Deputies contacted the man at the home, but he refused to come out, Thompson said. Deputies learned there was a second man in the home, who also was wanted an arrest warrant.

The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team secured the immediate area around the home and began trying to negotiate the men's surrender. Thompson said there were some voluntary evacuations from homes directly adjacent to the house where the two men were barricaded.

Just after 9 p.m., both men surrendered and were safely taken into custody, Thompson said. The men's names were not released.
