Former CU President Hank Brown told jurors Thursday he felt like he had no other choice but to recommend that Ward Churchill be fired.

Brown took the stand to testify about his role in the controversial case.

Churchill is suing in an effort to get his job back.

He was fired in 2007 on allegations of plagiarism and other research misconduct.

He came under scrutiny after writing an essay that compared the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks to people who supported the Nazi war machine.

Brown said he never read Churchill's essay.

He added, "Never once in all of that period of time did I ever have a conversation where I told someone what to decide or how to act on the case." Churchill's attorney, David Lane said his client will testify in the trial.
