Footprints In Snow Lead Cops To Crooks

Duo Nabbed After Stealing ATV

Steamboat Police arrested a pair for stealing an ATV by following their footprints in the snow on Tuesday morning.

Michael Allen Jones and Justin Dean Denton confessed to their crimes and were arrested on charges of aggravated motor vehicle theft, theft and being an accessory to a crime.

The pair also confessed to damaging several tow trucks during their crime spree.

Sgt Rich Brown said the pair stole an ATV from Howelsen Hill after midnight before getting it stuck on railroad tracks in town. The ATV was damaged during its theft.

Brown said Jones and Denton admitted to walking down 13th St. before damaging several American Towing trucks in a parking lot. The pair allegedly broke several windows and sprayed a fire extinguisher in the cab of another.

Brown said cops followed the footprints left in the snow from the stolen ATV to a house where Jones and Denton were. Police confiscated the boots of the two and matched up the prints by the damaged tow trucks to the shoes.

Several inches of snow fell in Steamboat Springs Monday night and Tuesday morning.
