Every deputy has their favorite lunch and coffee spot and Park County deputy Nate Carrigan was no different.
Whether it was the Cutthroat Café or the Rustic Station, Carrigan never made a visit without talking to just about everybody in the room.
“Just a very kind hearted man and he's going to be dearly missed," said Lisa Lien-Hughes, General Manager of the Rustic Station.
He’s likely most well-known for his role around the Platte Canyon School District though.
Carrigan graduated from Platte County High School where he played football and wrestled. During his training to be a deputy, Carrigan drove school buses for the district, then later became a school resource officer while with the Park County Sheriff’s Office.
“He's just very well connected, everybody's really having a difficult time today," said Brenda Krage, the Platte Canyon Schools Superintendent.
Carrigan was the current linebackers coach for the varsity football team and head coach of the junior varsity football team at Platte Canyon. He was also the head baseball coach. His players are heartbroken, but now want to unite around this tragedy.
"Our coach, we can play for him and play and just kind of continue on with what he would have wanted us to do," said Wyatt Thomas, who played both football and baseball for Carrigan.
You don’t have to look far to find someone who knew Carrigan and all of them have something kind to say about the man they describe as a humble man, who wore a huge smile.
