Colorado Springs firefighters have put out an early morning grass fire and are now investigating its cause.

Fire crews responded to the fire at Garden of the Gods Road and 30th Street around 5:40 a.m. Friday.

Eight fire units were called in to fight off the flames that burned an estimated 1.5 acres.

Winds were a big concern Friday, which is why firefighters aggressively attacked it.

30th Street, which was closed in both directions due to the fire, reopened at 7:10 a.m.

No homes or building were damaged, but firefighters had to defend one structure, known as the Navigators building, according to the fire department.

Colorado Springs Utilities were called out to check on any power poles that may have any fire damage.
