A 12-year-old with an inoperable brain tumor was sworn in this week as Brighton's youngest police officer.
Jose Rubio-Pavon told his family he always wanted to be a police officer.
On Thursday, Brighton officers Anna-Marie Cuney, Levy Slagle, and Corporal Monce Portillo swore Jose in as a special officer. They gave him an official police uniform shirt, a junior officer badge, and a certificate recognizing him as a member of the Brighton Police Department.
Brighton Police said Jose wore a giant smile as he raised his hand and took the oath of office.
Jose is a fifth-grader at North Elementary School. His swearing in ceremony was held in his hospice room.
A community fund has been set up at Valley Bank & Trust in Brighton to help Joses family with mounting medical bills and living expenses. Donations can be made to the Jose Angel Rubio-Pavon Family Fund.
