Denver Outage Knocks Out Power To 25,000

Power Restored Shortly Before 7 PM

A large electrical power outage in Denver affected 25,000 Xcel customers in East Denver before power was restored shortly before 7 p.m.

According to Xcel Energy, the boundaries were Downing to Uintah streets and from First to 26th Avenues.

Xcel said it is looking at the substation at 13th Avenue and Harrison Street as the possible cause of the problem. That is the same substation where a large transformer blew last summer.

The affected area included the Congress Park and City Park neighborhoods, but National Jewish Hospital didn't lose power because it connected to a different electrical grid.

Thursday's outage lasted about 80 minutes, according to Xcel.
