Denver Man Dies After Motorcycle Crash

Police: Lars Mickelson Lost Control Of Motorcycle

A 28-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing in Aurora on Sunday morning, police said.

Witnesses said Lars Mickelson of Denver was speeding on a black-and-red Yamaha motorcycle northbound on North Picadilly Road when he crashed about 10 a.m., according Aurora police Lt. Chuck DeShazer.

Mickelson, 28, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he died at about 2:30 p.m., DeShazer said.

Witnesses told police Mickelson lost control of the motorcycle and crossed into the southbound lane of Picadilly before leaving the west side of the roadway and hitting a dirt embankment, DeShazer said.

Witnesses said there was no other vehicle involved in the crash, he said. Officers said an examination of the bike indicated it did not collide with another vehicle.

DeShazer said an autopsy scheduled for early in the week may shed light on the cause of the fatal crash.
