Denver Public Schools will start the 2012-13 school year 11 days later than normal.

Parents, students and staff complained about excessive heat in classrooms during the heat wave that hit when school started last August.

Most schools started Aug. 18, but some schools started as early as Aug. 10.

Board members debated two proposals to delay the start of the school and decided to start classes on Aug. 27, according to the Denver Business Journal. Classes will end June 4.
