The Denver district attorney formally charged a man accused of killing a Denver police officer at a Jazz in the Park concert with first-degree murder, extreme indifference Monday.
Rollin Oliver was arrested shortly after the shooting on June 24.
"Oliver had been involved in an altercation and subsequently fired multiple rounds from a gun into a crowded area just as a jazz concert at Denvers City Park was ending. Officer Celena Hollis died at the scene when one of the shots struck her in the head," said Denver DA spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.
Oliver remains in custody in the Denver Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
Kimbrough said the DA took several days to file charges against Oliver because of the large number of witnesses that had to be interviewed.
Hollis was buried on Saturday during a memorial service attended by hundreds of police officers from around the state. Sunday, the Jazz in the Park concert was dedicated to her memory.
First-degree murder with extreme indifference is one of three types of first-degree murder charges. It is regarded as the easiest of the three murder charges to prove because prosecutors do not have to prove premeditation.
Suspect Has Gang Affiliations
7NEWS found Oliver's Facebook and Twitter accounts, where he uses the nickname "Boogie" and posted photographs showing him throwing apparent gang signs.
Oliver's Facebook page said he lives in Park Hill and attended Montbello High School.
Under employment, Oliver says he has been "Treasurer at park hill pharmaceutical," an apparent drug reference, since he was born in December 1990.
The CALL7 Investigators confirmed through an official familiar with juvenile court that Oliver was charged with a weapons offense in 2008 when he was 17 years old. He also was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana in 2009, but he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records.
