A bicyclist died when he was struck by a Ford Explorer in Arvada on Tuesday night, police said.

The collision happened before 11 p.m. on Wadsworth Boulevard just north of West 80th Avenue, said Arvada police spokeswoman Jill McGranahan.

The male cyclist was riding across the 8100 block of Wadsworth when he was hit by the Ford traveling northbound on the street, McGranahan said.

The area was not well lit and the cyclist was not in a crosswalk, McGranahan said.

The cyclist, described as a Hispanic man in his 40s, died at the scene, McGranahan said.

The man was carrying alcohol on him, but officials did not know if he was intoxicated, she said.

The woman driving the Ford was cooperating with the investigation, McGranahan said. The driver was not suspected of using drugs or alcohol, McGranahan added.

The road was expected to be closed during the investigation until about 2:30 a.m.
