Teen killed in shooting identified, suspect caught in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A 17-year-old girl who was killed in a shooting in Grand Junction has been identified by the coroner’s office.

Kiera Quintana, 17, was killed after she was shot in the head just after midnight Saturday in the parking lot of the City Market in Orchard Mesa, according to Mesa County Coroner Dean Havlik.

Police said they received reports that a woman had been shot and another had been shot and injured.

Quintana was declared dead at the scene once police arrived to investigate. Her friend, who was not identified, was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was later located and taken into custody. No other suspects are outstanding, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.
