CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. — The juvenile suspected of shooting a Cherry Hills Village police officer in August faces 32 charges.
Angelo Alston, 17, will be charged as an adult. His bond was set at $1 million Thursday morning based on the severity of the case, extensive juvenile criminal history including multiple gun-related charges, and the fact that other suspects are still at-large.
Among the 32 counts is attempted murder of a peace officer, kidnapping, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Six of these charges are sentence enhancers.
Authorities announced Wednesday that they had arrested a juvenile on Aug. 31 in connection to the home invasion robbery, which ended in a shooting that wounded Ofc. Cory Sack.
Sack was responding to a 911 hang-up call on Sedgwick Drive late in the day on Aug. 21. He encountered two suspects inside a home and a shootout began.
The officer was hit twice by gunfire and the suspects fled the scene.
Police hadn’t arrested any suspects before Alston's arrest Wednesday. The teen had a court hearing to learn his charges Thursday morning. In court, Alston was crying and shaking as the judge set his bond.
The defense is requesting to return the case to juvenile court.
Police said Wednesday they are seeking additional suspects.
Sack had multiple surgeries, but is on the road to recovery, police said. A GoFundMe was created to help cover his medical bills.
