WESTMINSTER, Colo. – A man was arrested overnight after he reportedly stabbed his mother to death and critically wounded his sister during the attack, a spokesperson for the Westminster Police Department said Sunday.

Cheri Spottke, with Westminster police, told Denver7 911 received a hang-up call from a home in the area of Lowell Boulevard and West 77th Avenue at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday.

Officers responding to the home found the women suffering from several stab wounds, a mother and her daughter. The mother was declared dead at the scene and the suspect's sister was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Officers were able to get three children, all under the age of 10, out of the home unharmed, officials said in a statement sent to Denver7 Sunday afternoon.

The man, identified by Westminster police as Adrian Luis Ramirez, 23, was arrested at the home, according to Spottke.

Ramirez is being held at the Adams County Detention Facility and is being charged with first-degree murder, child abuse and criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder.

Court documents obtained by Denver7 show Ramirez was arrested by Golden police on charges of misdemeanor kidnapping/false imprisonment, attempted robbery and felony menacing. He was found guilty of felony menacing with a weapon and kidnapping/false imprisonment and sentenced to two years of probation.

Spottke told Denver7 investigators don’t have a motive yet in connection to the alleged crime.
