COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – A sexually violent predator convicted of sexually assaulting a child was apprehended by authorities five days after cutting off his ankle monitor before going on the run.

The Colorado Department of Corrections put out a notice late Tuesday saying they were looking for Robert Jake Chavez, 38, after Chavez cut off his ankle monitor.

He is currently on parole and was last seen near Pioneer Park in Commerce City.

DOC says Chavez has convictions on sexual assault on a child charges and “has a history of possessing a weapon.”

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Saturday he was apprehended Friday night.
