AURORA, Colo. -- A 19-year-old Aurora woman missing for more than a month was found safe Wednesday and is now in law enforcement custody, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Sesina Akelom was officially reported missing April 9, but her family had not seen her since March 22. They were concerned that her disappearance could be tied to the death of her best friend, Queen Ashby, who was identified as the woman found dead in Clear Creek County last month.
Akelom’s mother, Tsigerada Ghebreyesus, confirmed Wednesday that her daughter called her today from the police station, but she did not say where she has been, only telling her, “Pray for me.”
Ghebreyesus said police have been interviewing Akelom all day, and she is still convinced this is all somehow connected to Queen Ashby’s death. Ashby was Akelom's best friend, and the two girls went missing at the same time, she said.
“I can’t thank Denver7 enough for helping us,” said Ghebreyesus. “I know people saw your story last night, and that is why I know where my daughter is today. I know she is safe.”
Investigators said there is no additional information at this time, and there will likely be no further information released Wednesday.
