Man shot, killed by Fort Collins police after brandishing firearm inside hotel room

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A man is dead after he was shot and killed by Fort Collins police early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened sometime after 5 a.m., when police were called to the America’s Best Value Inn hotel in the area of North College Avenue and West Willox Lane.

The caller told 911 he heard a loud noise and a hole appeared in the ceiling above him.

Fort Collins Police Services responded and tried to make contact with the suspect, who reportedly opened the door wielding a firearm.

A deputy with The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said the officer fired the weapon immediately after, striking and killing the man.

The suspect’s identity will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office once family has been notified.

No officers or hotel guests were injured in the shooting.

The Loveland Police Department will be the lead investigating agency, authorities said in a press released.
