GILPIN COUNTY, Colo. – A man who pleaded guilty in September to human trafficking charges for pimping out a teenager to an undercover officer will spend 30 years in prison.
John Charles Sears, 42, was arrested last October during the FBI’s annual underage prostitution sting.
Agents contacted his 17-year-old victim at the Ameristar Casino Hotel and helped her arrange a sting on Sears, who acted as her pimp. He arranged for the girl to meet with a John who turned out to be an undercover officer.
The girl, who had run away from home, had met Sears through another homeless teen. He had given her a place to stay but had forced her into prostitution in exchange for a roof and methamphetamine.
After the girl would have sex with Johns, she would be forced to give Sears all the money, according to the district attorney’s office.
Sears pleaded guilty Sept. 6 to human trafficking of a child, pimping of a child and first-degree assault charges. He was sentenced Nov. 28 in First Judicial District Court.
