Kidnapping, burglary suspect skips trial, police issue warrant out for his arrest

DENVER – A warrant has been issued Thursday for a kidnapping and burglary suspect who skipped his trial this week in Denver District Court.

The trial for Yulian Rodriguez-Cruz, 25, was expected to begin Tuesday in Denver District Court; but an official with the Denver District Attorney’s Office confirmed with Denver7 Rodriguez-Cruz never showed up after posting at $200,000 bond.

Rodriguez-Cruz is accused of reportedly pointing a gun at a 34-year-old man and his friend, a 31-year-old man, on Dec. 11, 2015, as they were pulling away from the 34-year-old’s driveway.

The man told police at the time he spotted two men, one of them Rodriguez-Cruz, standing near a basement window and trying to get into his home.

That’s when he said he tried to back up from the driveway and the suspects charged at them before entering the vehicle and pointing the gun at both victims.

The 34-year-old told police he jumped out of the car and began to run, fearing for his life.

He would tell officers that day a manager from commercial-grade marijuana harvest equipment store “The Trim Store” had called him, telling him Rodriguez-Cruz was a suspect in at least three other robberies.

Rodriguez-Cruz turned up in a criminal background check, and has a criminal history including multiple incidents of resisting arrest, carrying a concealed firearm, larceny, possession of a weapon by a previous offender as well as traffic offenses.

The suspect is described as measuring 6 feet tall and weighing 210 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes.

He has warrants of for his arrest on two counts of felony menacing and burglary of a dwelling.
