THORNTON, Colo. -- Police are trying to identify a brazen gunman who walked up to Building "J" at the Oxford Pointe Apartments early Saturday morning and brazenly fired four rounds into the air.

His actions were caught on camera.

The video shows the shirtless gunman walking up the sidewalk, cocking his gun, firing a round into the air, stooping over to pick up the casing, then running up the sidewalk and firing three more rounds.

"I was sleeping when I heard the gunfire," one tenant told Denver7. "That third shot was right here outside my window."

The tenant said the gunshot was so loud she could feel pressure in her chest.

"It shocked me out of bed," she said.

"You can't be running around just shooting off rounds," said Ryan Mays, another tenant in the same building.

Mays had just returned home from the gym when his neighbor told him to "get inside, someone is firing a gun" in broad daylight.

Mays says he found one of the rounds near the corner of the L-shaped sidewalk and two more rounds several feet away.

He snapped a photo of one of them with his cell phone and texted it to Denver7.

Police say they don't know yet whether this was a random act, whether someone was targeted with a message or if the gunfire was gang-related.

"We won't know until we find out who he is," said Ofc. Matt Barnes.

"The police officer that showed up to take our statements that morning told us that we were in the middle of the gang problems in this area," Mays said.

He added that his biggest concern is the safety of the children who live in the complex.

"At any given time, there are upward of 30 kids playing outside," he said.

Mays says management needs to take the gunman's actions more seriously.  He says there is very little, if any security.

"There are tenants here who are trying to intimidate others," he said. "That's not acceptable."

Police say once the gunman is caught, he could face a misdemeanor charge of "illegal discharge," or a more serious charge of "reckless endangerment."
